FOODIMA "EU Food Industry Dynamics and Methodological Advances"

Foodima project

The FOODIMA project aims at developing an integrated framework of methods and tools, by linking different economics sub-disciplines and incorporating the latest theoretical advances in methodological approaches and applying them in food chain analysis. In addition, the project intends to analyse the EU food chain, providing a descriptive and systematic assessment of the current situation and performance, the sector’s evolution and potential, as well as the interactions with, and the impact on the primary agricultural sector.

The strategic objectives addressed include theoretical and empirical tools aimed at:

  1. providing a consolidated and solid methodological framework suitable for applying in food chain analysis;
  2. generating a descriptive analysis and a concise outlook of the entire EU food industry;
  3. exploring the dynamics of the food industry and assessing the effects of the productivity patterns and the level of integration on the economic performance of the food chain ;
  4. analyzing the competitiveness and strategic interactions of the food industry, particularly the influence of mergers and acquisitions activity;
  5. modelling technology adoption and R&D incentives in the EU food supply chain; vi) evaluating the regulatory environment and the most significant causes of change in the food industry, with particular emphasis placed on the influence of policy measures on food quality, standardization and labelling;
  6. assessing the interactions and integration of the food industry and the agricultural sector and demonstrating its contribution to the development of rural areas;
  7. generating policy recommendations for EU and national officials.
